Movie 56 Prophesy 11 Populism bitter false hope
I think it was in the 1970’s when I went to the Drury Lane Theatre to watch an animated show.  It featured three philosophers, who went to an island to think.  One thought up Truth, one Beauty and one Good.  Most of the fun of the show was a fight that developed between Beauty and Good.  One would back off to below the horizon and then rush the other until the screen was almost full.  Eventually Truth produced the “bomb,” an abiding icon of the day, and they settled their differences and, terrified, left the island.
The imagery is good; these snorting monsters clobbering each other are a good icon for the global duel between globalism and populism.  The plot analogy is loose.  The philosophers realize that if their war escalates, everyone will die.  But with the globo-populist struggle, prolonged conflict or victory on either side will have the same dire result.
For me it’s easy enough to choose a sentimental favorite; globalism grows by warfare, by immigration that is a torment to the citizens, higher rape, murder and other crimes (of no concern to the rich with their heavily armed bodyguards) and all with the intent of making the obscenely rich even richer.  I read, and do suspect, that it makes them more obscene as well.  Powerful people could in theory – and may in fact – be duped into doing things that render them subject to blackmail.  For instance the UK royal family, whom I long loved, have never breathed a word about the globalist agenda that has changed London to terribly for the worse.  That failure alone is enough to make me suspect that there is blackmail behind it.
It is today the 9th of August, 2019, and the yellow vest protests in France are set to enter their 39th straight week.  Macron, their president came out of nowhere with suddenly the funds and more importantly the staff of expert people to make himself president.  He oversaw or there had recently been pressure on people to buy diesel cars, supposedly easier on the environment, and Paris was so gentrified that ordinary people could not afford to live there; they had to commute from the cheaper rent countryside.  Then he slapped a tax on diesel fuel.  In the ensuing protests, he has never expressed remorse for the eyes and hands lost to police violence used in suppressing the demonstrations.  On their big national celebration of Bastille Day he rode in an open car with Angela Merkel, another powerful and hated globalist as the crowd booed.  Now I have never seen a Nazi general standing in his car with his hands on the windshield top, but I have sure seen it in the movies.  And such was the pose he chose.
Now there is an easy man to hate.  There has to be something weird in his head that lets him live with the shame.  A head of state so hated in some countries would be in peril of his life, but with France’s long history of democracy people will wait docilly for the next election.  It is ironic to reflect that free elections can make tyranny safe.
Make no mistake; bringing in immigrants and giving them support, helath care and so forth is no favor to them.  It dooms their offspring to reduced fertility and the line ultimately to extinction along with lines of people who marry them.
But sentiment is not policy.  What would be the result of policies introduced by globalism’s nemesis – populism?
I have something I want to show you, but first here are some bats in the enormous colony in the Carlsbad Caverns.

During the spring and fall migration, the bat numbers in the cavern were documented as high as 793,000 in 2005. There are seasonal fluctuations of the numbers, as well as daily fluctuations. Researchers from Boston University have been assisting the park in getting accurate population estimates. And here is a commercially available bat box, or batfry as I sometimes say.  (Nobody much likes my jokes.)
This is a three chambered box.  One chamber is expected to hold about a hundred bats, so that’s three hundred in all.  (They really have to be packed in there, eh?) So why not one chamber for the 300?  Surely you jest.  Remember the Sibly curve that relates population size to population growth rate/fertility.

To the left you have smaller populations and greater growth, and to the right you have bigger populations and slower or negative growth.  The three-chamber box gives you more growth than one chamber three times as big.  The numbers look about right for humans, too.  It seems ironic that they have worked it out for bats but not for people.  I’m not sure whether three hundred is above or below the stable size, but I suspect it’s pretty close.  Obviously all those hundreds of thousands of Carlsbad bats are not just one mating pool; each pool has its own little corner to gather in.
The globalist vision is a single world social pool; let’s say 8 billion.  The population of France is about 67 million although estimates vary.  So a populist France (assuming all the immigrants have joined the society) we’ll call 80 million.  That is 1% of the globalist agenda, a factor of 100.
If the best, most stable bat population is 200, to grab a number somewhere between really good growth and maybe negative growth, then we can guess that the most stable human population is the same, 200.  That is a factor of 400,000.  It’s not close.  Instead of two orders of magnitude it is well over five orders of magnitude.
I’m sorry.  It won’t work.  By itself it would do no good at all.  We’d still die out, first the science-technology-engineering-mathematics population and then the productive middle class, leaving us to try to feed a world of 8 billion with a technology that could feed 2 billion under the best circumstances, and circumstances would be very bad.  Environmental havoc and all out war seem probable but irrelevant.  Eventually there will be no babies.

Perhaps populism could be a step in the right direction, but there would be many more steps to go.  Alone I don’t see how it can delay our fate  a single day.
